Important Forms and Fees:
First dual meet is typically 1st Wednesday after Spring Break
1. Physical Form - all runners must have a physical on file. A new one is needed yearly. If you already have one on file from earlier this year there is no need to get another one.
2. Emergency Medial Authorization - must be filled out and signed by a parent/guardian.
3. Risk Form - all runners must sign and return. This is an acknowledgment that your son or daughter could be injured while participating in an athletic activity.
4. Participation Fee - $55 made payable to Hilliard City Schools.
Runners will be provided with the following equipment:
Running top
Running shorts
Warm-up pants and jacket
Runners will need to provide:
Recommend good pair of running shoes. (Spikes are optional) (Front Runner on Lane Ave. is recommended)
Recommend good pair of running socks (Thiorlo are recommended)
Expectations/Guidelines:
1. Safety - During practice and meets, be aware of your surroundings. When running in the grass, be aware of holes, rocks, etc. When running in neighborhoods, be aware of cars backing out of driveways, stay on the sidewalks, and be sure to look both ways when crossing a neighborhood street.Always use stoplights and crosswalks when crossing on main streets. Remember you are part of team. Watch out for each other!
2. Health - The healthier you are, the better you will run. Stay away from greasy, sugary, and fatty foods. We recommend that you eat fruits, vegetables, and carbohydrates. Most importantly, fluids are crucial to your performance. Drink fluids before, during, and after practice/meets. You can expect aches, pains, and soreness throughout the season. Most of these are normal due to the strenuous exercise you are participating in. Stretching, icing, and rest will usually help to reduce the discomfort. Be prepared for cold weather. Dress appropriately, for instance gloves, hat, and sweatshirt, layer your clothes and sweat pants. If you do not you increase the chance of getting sick & then taking a long time to recover.
3. Absences/Attendance - We require a note for any missed practice signed by a parent/guardian. If you need to miss for any school-related activity, bring a note from that teacher. Two (2) unexcused absences may affect your ability to compete in an upcoming meet or participation on the team. Attendance to practice is crucial to your performance; try to be present as much as you can!
4. Discipline – Given the number of athletes on the team, the tolerance for misbehavior and indiscretions will be very small. As a team, our focus is to improve ourselves as individuals thereby improving the team. Distractions to that goal cannot be a common practice. One (1) indiscretion of significance or a number of minor distractions will result in a probationary period of time. The administration of Weaver M.S. will be notified along with you parent(s)/guardian(s). A second or repeated offense may result in loss of participating in a meet/invitational or removal form the team. All policies as stated in the Weaver Student Handbook apply!
5. Team Goals:
· Be positive!
· Put forth your time and effort.
· Be a good example of
· Respect your surroundings. Pick up after yourselves, for example: uniforms, wrappers, and cups.
· Support and encourage one another. If you are successful, the team is successful. Always put the team above yourself. Ask yourself this question: How can I positively impact and the support the Weaver Track & Field team this year?
Team Procedures:
1. Days of dual/tri meet during the school week; we will hold a study table session in the commons. Please gather all of your necessary belongings especially schoolwork and go to the commons. Drop off your things & change into your uniform.Return to your seat and begin working on schoolwork. If you need to leave a table please ask one of the coaches first. Please sit together as a team. Be sure to clean up before we leave and push in your chairs. Buses will pick us up at Weaver & take us to the meet location, and then will return us back to Weaver. You will need to arrange a ride home from Weaver. Typically we return back to Weaver @ approximately 8-9 p.m.
· In general during meets and invitationals stay warm! Be sure you get your heart rate up and blood flowing, before you compete in your event. Do this approximately 15 minutes before the start of the event. If you run cold you will not perform as well and risk injury
2. Days of invitationals we will meet in the morning (depends on time invitational begins) between 7-11 a.m. at Weaver. Buses will transport us to the invitational location and then return us back to Weaver. You will need to arrange a ride home from Weaver. Typically we arrive back to Weaver @ approximately 4-5 p.m.
3. Be on time for practice, on the track at 2:45 p.m. sharp! *Please be prompt in picking up students after practice, by 5 p.m. Ormake other arrangements. Practices will be kept on schedule as much as possible. If a calamity day (No School = No Practice!)
Parent Support:
· We will need help with the running of our home meets and invitational. We appreciate any assistance you can provide. Some of the items include: setting up parking signs, directing traffic, recording results, collecting numbered index cards, maintaining finish order of runners… Please let us know in advance if you can be of any assistance.
· We provide water and sometimes Gatorade, cups and a tent.

Boys & Girls Track & Field
Daily Procedures
1. Go immediately to your designated locker room, change, lock belongings, and head out to the track. (Be on the track by 2:45 p.m.)
2. Warm –up will begin by 2:46 p.m. at the entrance of the track. A coach will inform you when to begin your 6 minute OR 4 lap jog.
3. Gather at the entrance of the track (Boys on bleacher side & Girls on long jump side) and we will stretch & do plyometrics as a team. (3-3:15 p.m.)
4. Next, you will split off into your respective group (boys/girls) and do either field events or the workout for the day, then switch approximately 35 minutes later.
5. Gather back together as a team, cool down, 100’s & stretch. (4:30-4:45p.m.)
6. Attendance and closing. (4:45-5p.m.)
· Use your own clothing for practice! Have in your blue bag an extra pair of socks, shorts, t-shirt short & long sleeved. For cold weather, have layers - sweat pants, sweatshirt, hat & gloves!
· Do Not use the uniforms issued to you!
· If you have a school related activity after school go change, lock up your items and then attend the activity. Bring a note and hustle back to practice as soon as you can. (You still have to do your warm-up and then join in your workout)
· Be sure your ride picks you up in the back parking lot OR parking lot near the bleachers/press box at the designated time (outside the locker room’s hallway/entrance). Be on time please! No one is allowed to wander the school hallways.
· During Spring Break be sure to at least jog every other day for 20 mins and then do some speed work such as 100m 6-8 times.
· Be responsible, be a leader, lead by example! Track & Field has many opportunities in which to achieve success as a team and individually. Take advantage of them! No Excuses, Just Results! Carpe Diem!

Procedure for Meets
Be sure to pack your own snack for study tables. We will not allow you to use the vending machines unless absolutely necessary (if you forget your snack-you call & have someone bring it to you)
Steps
1) Bell tones @ 2:30pm Change into your uniform pack up your stuff. No Jewelry-wristbands be sure uniforms match for relay teams especially!
2) By 2:50pm Girls go to the main gym, Boys go to the Aux. Gym-bring your book bags & duffel bags
3) Find a place to sit and stay there unless you raise your hand & a coach okays you leaving-bathroom
4) ~3pm will begin completing the meet sheets/lineup-will callout events in order-please pay attention
5) ~4pm should finish meet sheets ask to clean up all track & organize stuff -if Away meet bus will pick us up & take to location. Most meets end by 8pm & we are back to Weaver by 8:30pm.
Please have ride at Weaver to pick you up before we arrive!
6) Go outside with your stuff- Boys go to upper right side of bleachers-Girls go to upper left side of bleachers. Help coaches set up materials at various events!
8) ~4:30pm begin warming up Boys & Girls, Be Loud!
a) remember you are representatives, a reflection of yourself, Us, Weaver & community-cleanup!
b) be sure to warm-up before your event, practice hand offs – face infield, take care of batons return them to red bag
c) listen for 1st call… esp. field event athletes- check OUT check IN
d) 4x100 R-L-R-L:4x200R-L switch hands-running-1st leg resp. for baton-return to red bag-team
e) go all the way thru the finish line – lean – esp. hurdles – use good form at end
f) stay off infield if not in next event & if you are, back off or get down near the finish line area – no running along with participants
g) please stay away from scoring table/start-finish line!
h) at 1st call of 4x400 begin to clean up, get your stuff organized, cheer!

Relay Information
1) 400 meter relay (4 x 100): typically use faster runners 2nd and 4th position
a. Blind R – L – R – L. Have runners positioned at start of fly zone, begin to run when runner is approx. 5-7 steps away, passer yells stick, receiver puts out hand behind them face up, receives baton in hand off zone. Small triangles designate fly zone, large triangles represent hand off zone. Must complete hand off in zone otherwise will be disqualified. Use Black triangles (Y-Y-Y)
b. Open R – L – R – L. Runners (located at beginning of fly zone (small triangles) begin to run when passer is approx. 5-7 steps away turns into the infield places hand up in a V and receives baton (within hand off zone-large triangles), turns and runs. Typically used in beginning of season to familiarize athletes with relay procedure.
2) 800 meter relay (4 X 200):
a. Blind all runners receive with Left hand and can then switch hands after the pass. Have runners positioned at start of fly zone, begin to run when runner is approx. 5-7 steps away, passer yells stick, receiver puts out hand behind them face up, receives baton in hand off zone. Small triangles designate fly zone, large triangles represent hand off zone. Must complete hand off in zone otherwise will be disqualified. Use Blacks & Yellow triangles. (B-B-Y)
3) 1600 and 3200 meter relay (4 X 400 & 4 X 800): typically use faster runners in 1st and 4th position
a. Official starts runners. Use an Open hand off which is runners turned into the infield, begins to run when passer is 5-7 steps away, turns back to passer puts Left hand up in a V and receives baton. Must receive baton within hand off zone large blue/yellow triangles.
4) Placement of athletes:
a. based on strengths /weaknesses of other team
b. if athlete has back to back events
c. need to have a team
d. focus on open dashes early in season & then form relay teams
e. overall balance of team strengths
