Track Team Rules and Procedures

PHILOSOPHY
The coaches of the Davidson track team are committed to teach: self-discipline, reliability, sportsmanship determination and a competitive spirit. We will do whatever it takes to make you as an athlete, the best that you can be. We will promote both team and individual success but the team comes first. Your commitment to our program is just as important as any that have been made to other programs.  During the Track season, we come first.
GOALS
INTRINSIC REWARDSTo become a determined, reliable, disciplined athlete, learning to deal with the rewards and failures that unfold before you this season. All athletes have choices about the way you choose to overcome those challenges.  Your choices determine your season.

COACHING STAFF

This includes but not limited to: coaching of any athlete regardless of event, final decisions on those that run and any behavioral problems.  Main Events to Coach: Pole Vault, High Jump, Long Jump
Pat Schlecht - Assistant Coach: Distance Runners
Todd Heinlen - Assistant Coach: Sprints, Hurdles
Ryan Aleshire - Assistant Coach: Throws
ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
You must be passing five classes at the end of the nine weeks excluding physical education to be eligible.  You must also have a grade point of at least 1.75 for grades 10 – 12 and 1.5 for 9th grade.
UNIFORMS (Sweats, Running top and bottom)
All athletes are responsible for their own uniform and sweats that is assigned to them.  Each athlete will be charged for lost, stolen or damaged materials or items not returned at the conclusion of the season. Total cost for all is $79
FEES AND FORMS
All forms and pay to participate is due ASAP.  Pay to participate is $100 made out to Hilliard City Schools.

RULES FOR PRACTICES
1.  Practice starts at 3:00 p.m. If you are late you need a pass.
2.  Three unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the team.
      a.  In car driving sessions - schedule them after practice or meets.
      b.  Going to club sports.
3.  Notes are needed for all excused absences or tardiness.
4.  We will try to end practice around 5:00 p.m.
5.  Track practice takes precedence over any club sport or out of season sport.
6.  Hair must be kept in a neat and acceptable appearance (cut or pulled back) (facial hair must be groomed) If it becomes an issue then you may choose not to be on the team.
7.  If you are absent from school, you cannot be at practice unless excused by the Athletic Director.
RULES FOR MEETS
1.  You must ride the bus to and from all meets. (See Coach Smith for exceptions)
2.  You need to be on time, the bus will not wait for you.
3.  No profanity.  You will be disqualified for using it.
4.  You will not be able to participate in a meet if you are absent the day of a meet. If the meet falls on the weekend, you must be in school the previous day. You will need to be there the entire day. If you are absent and it is excused, you may be able to participate but the discretion is left up to the Athletic Director or Coach.
5, 6, 7 are the same as practice.
GENERAL RULES
1.     Lifting is encouraged if it does not interfere with practice or meets.  You need to be as fresh as possible to contribute to the program to the best of your ability. * Anyone lifting the day of prior to a meet will be denied participation in meets for one week.
2.     You may play club sports if they do not interfere with practice, meets or within the last 5 weeks of the season.  If you take the chance of getting hurt, we cannot use you in the end.
3.     Any behavior deemed detrimental to the track program by the coaching staff may result in forfeiture of some or all of your season. (Pictures, shirts, gestures, movies, comments, etc.)
4.  The Head Coach has the final say in all issues pertaining to the track program.  Situations may be dealt with on an individual basis.  Athletes may be kept out of competition for the following:
      a.  Health and safety of the athlete.
      b.  Violation of any of the school or team rules.
